Director's Message

Ying Hua, Director of China Center Officially launched in 2016, the Cornell China Center builds on a century of in-depth engagement between Cornell University and China.

The establishment of the center reflects the importance of Chinese connections to the university. Not only is China one of the world’s preeminent superpowers, there are significant faculty and student connections and a profound tradition of global partnership between Cornell and China.

The creation of the center is intended to honor and deepen these connections while facilitating vibrant new initiatives.

The center’s vision is to build an intellectual and experiential bridge between Cornell and China, bringing great minds together to foster innovative collaborations and address critical challenges facing the world.

Our mission is to support world-class research, education, collaboration and entrepreneurship across diverse communities in Cornell and China.

Dynamic Themes

Rooftop detail The center focuses on dynamic themes that have been determined by mutual interest, expertise and relevance: Contemporary Chinese Society and Politics; Technologies for Innovation; New Urbanization and Real Estate Innovations; Sustainable Development Goals for China and the World; and Chinese Culture(s) and Global Connections. Themes are developed and coordinated by working groups of interested faculty.

Strategic Activities

Chinese calligraphy Activities of the center emphasize five key strategies: Connection—among students, faculty, collaborators in academia, industry partners, and alumni; Education—undergraduate courses and experiential opportunities, graduate fellowships; exchange programs; Innovation—funding for research and exploratory projects; Recruitment and Placement—for Cornell and Chinese students at all levels; and Celebration—for alumni and for newly admitted Chinese students.
