Advancing Healthcare: New Perspectives on Global Health and Public Health

On Sunday, August 18, 2024, the Cornell China Center in Beijing hosted an insightful event titled "Advancing Healthcare: New Perspectives on Global Health and Public Health" drawing approximately 50 participants in-person and online. The event aimed to explore the evolving landscape of public health and global health, emphasizing its significance not only for individual well-being but also for societal progress.

The afternoon began with a warm welcome from Peter Wen, Manager, Cornell in China, followed by Dr. Ying Hua, Director of the Cornell China Center, who introduced the purpose of the event series of career exploration and Cornell China Center’s ongoing efforts to fostering dialogue and collaborative research on critical global health issues.

The event then transitioned into a panel discussion, moderated by Cornell alumna Weina Liu. The panel featured distinguished professionals from various sectors of public health in China:

  • Ning Zheng, Head of Medical Writing Strategy and Execution at AstraZeneca China R&D Center.
  • Jingjing Lu, M.D., Medical Director and Director of Radiology at Beijing United Family Hospital.
  • Gefei Li, Cornell alumna and Head of Business Management at So-Young International Inc.
  • Zhiyu Yin, Director and Assistant General Manager of Beijing Longzhen Elderly Care Services Center.

The panel discussion delved into the pressing global health topics of our time, from the COVID-19 pandemic to the rapid advancements in health technology. The panelists shared their experiences and insights on how these developments are reshaping the public health and global health fields. They also explored the broader implications for healthcare policies, health management, and environmental factors, emphasizing the need for innovative solutions, talents, and dedication to drive progress in these areas.

The interactive session following the panel discussion provided attendees with valuable perspectives for navigating their career paths in the health sector, reflecting great attention on adaptability and innovation in this rapidly changing landscape. It was the consensus from the participants that they welcome more opportunities for insightful dialogues that this event was able to facilitate.
